Mr. Fernandez was born on December 23, 1923 in Santiago, Dominican Republic. He was a proud, hardworking man who was strongly devoted to his beautiful, loving family.

Francisco’s family invites all who are able to Visiting Hours from 5-8pm on Saturday February 18th at Sampson-Hickey-Grenier Funeral Home 309 Main St Brockton, MA. A second viewing will be held on Sunday February 19th at the funeral home from 2-6pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday February 20th at 10am at St. Ambrose Church in Dorchester, MA. Interment will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Boston, MA.

A Funeral Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. John Neumann Church,
157 Middleboro Road (Rt.18) East Freetown on Friday, February 10, 2012 at 10:00 am.

He was born in, Sao Miguel, Azores to Manuel and Coralia (Almeida) Andrade and brought up in Ponta del Gada. He came to New Bedford to attend the New Bedford Institute of Technology where he was a member of Delta Kappa Phi Fraternity.

He worked for over 30 years at Tibbets Engineering and had been serving as the acting City Engineer with the City of New Bedford since 1999. He was a fiercely competative man of many talents who lived life with great enthusiasm. He was a perfectionist, at the job he loved and in his personal life whether designing and building an elaborate walkway or decorating wine bottles in the colors of his favorite soccer team.

He was best known among his family and friends, however, for his gourmet cooking. He was very proud of his Azorean heritage. He was a sports fan and loved to go to both the Red Sox and the Patriots’ games.. He was “Voo Voo” to his grandchildren with whom he shared a special rapport.

He attended St.Mary’s church in South Dartmouth. In addition to his wife, he leaves a son, Peter B. Andrade and his wife Kathy (Mandeville) of South Dartmouth, a daughter Thea Andrade of Pheonix, grandchildren Jacob and Owen Andrade of South Dartmouth and Maxwell and Zoe Yockus of Pheonix, his aunt Adriana Melo of Sao Miguel and numerous cousins in Sao Miguel, Ontario and California., his extended Bosworth family, and his many good friends and co-workers. He was the grandfather of the late Lucas Andrade of South Dartmouth.

Per his wishes he was cremated. His Funeral Mass will be held at a later date to accommodate out of town family.

He was the beloved husband of Beatrice A. (Ingham) Wilcoxen. They were married January 5, 1945
at the South Baptist Church in New Bedford. The loving father of Donna L. Beard and her husband
Douglas of Lakeville. Brother of Marylou Shepard and the late John “Jack” Wilcoxen.
Loving grandfather of David Beard and Dr. Daniel Beard and his wife Kate. Great grandfather of
Alex, Henry, and Nicky Beard. Don was a W.W. ll Veteran in the U.S. Navy/Airforce. Burial will be private at the Mass National Cemetery at a later date.
